Forbes.com put out an article (click here) last week on the Best Rivalry in Sports.  The winner – oh yeah, the Dodgers & Giants.  No surprise here.  The fans dig this rivalry and as mentioned in my posts last week, weird things just happen when these teams play each other.

What caught my attention though was how Forbes determined the best rivalry.  I thought it had to do with the fan intensity, or most popularity.  Nope and Nope.  It actually had to do with how much tickets are marked up for the games between the teams.  Yep Markup, mainly on www.stubhub.com.

Dodgers & Giants tickets are typically marked up 44% (See in-depth review here).  That doesn’t surprise me because the actual tickets are normally marked up that much, and then if you buy them on www.craigslist.com or www.stubhub.com, you pay even more.  They are the teams to see, and it truly is the biggest draw of the year.

What was interesting this last series though is that because tickets are selling so slow for the Giants this year, that they lowered prices by 40%.  This was the deal I jumped on to go to the game, but obviously they just took the prices down to the normal level for a normal series.  I truly wonder if the lack of tickets had to do with the fact that the series was a Monday through Wednesday series.  If the same series is a Friday through Sunday, I bet they sell a lot more tickets.

Either way, it’s still pretty cool to be part of the best rivalry in all of sports.
