Manny Ramirez from MLB.com

Manny Ramirez from MLB.com

So finally I found a good article on why Manny shouldn’t be a Giant.  This is actually a really well written article from the San Jose Mercury News.  His point is that Manny wouldn’t fit the culture of where the Giant’s are going.  Sure, Manny would help them win and put people in seats, but the rest of what he brings would make them worse, and would actually be worse than what happend with Barry Bonds.

My favorite line was, “You know who loves Ramirez? The fantasy baseball players and pie-eyed-fan boys. “  Quite the statement.  Partially true, no doubt.  It was interesting reading the article as a Dodger Fan though because I had to wonder…why do we really want this guy based on what he is saying?  Manny is a risk.  He brings the offense, but he brings lots of baggage.  In this game of winning, he will get a good contract, but by the end of the second year I’m sure there will be lots of drama on no matter what team he choosing.

The local radio station still loves Manny and wants him as a Giant.  Apparently the Giant’s will take lots of money off the books this year, so there would be more money next year…but they doubted that Manny would take a low amount this year just for a long term deal.

Lets face it, Manny is going to be Manny anywhere he goes. He’ll generate runs but they need another hitter behind him to make picthers pitch to him. Does San Francisco have that??? Similiar to Bonds, they can just walk him and pitch to the much less of the two hitters. Manny will put butts in the seats, and remeber there is no such thing as Bad press. The Giants are a terrible team, the offensive is poor at best, there pitching is very promising though.

    My two cents.

Good enough argument for me as to why the Giant’s shouldn’t get him! Not like the Dodgers really have someone to hit behind him…nor pitching, but at least we know he can help the Dodgers!
